Portugal serves as a benchmark in the global wine world. Portugal with its huge variety of grapes is unique. The high overall quality of the wines produced in this region has long been no secret. That Portugal winemakers are still a long way away from reaching the end of the line, is instead more likely to be a secret. Suits and patent leather shoes are as rare as Trollinger and Chasselas for Portugal winemakers. While discussing with the wine makers one can feel the pride for the accomplishments achieved. At the same time, however, the ambition to produce better wines is still there. The Grand Crus are still going to make progress for both the qualitative and quantitative aspects. The end of the Portuguese flagpole seems really far, far away.
